Chandrebi Estate is located on the right bank of the Alalzani River, near the village of Ikalto in Kakheti - main wine producing region of Georgia. It is the world's one of the most picturesque regions: on the north, borders Caucasus Mountains and on the south Tsiv Gombori Mountain range. North to the vineyard is Alaverdi 11th Century Georgian Orthodox Monastery. In the middle of vineyard is 6th Century Chapel Sameba (Trinity). The vineyard is 520 m above sea level and relief is terraced like waves. Microclimate is characterized with hot summers and mild winters. Total area under vine is 40 ha. Out of which 35 ha is Saperavi grape and 5 ha Mtsvane (white grape). Vineyard is divided in 100 m by 100 m blocks. Spacing between rows 2.50 m and between plants 1.50 m.Acquired vineyard in 2001 and replanted and reworked. We selected the Chandrebi area for major development, as the area is cooler and drier, then other parts of Kakheti region. Temperature during the growing season and harvesting period is lowered by Caucasus mountain air. Each vineyard block will be visited 5 - 6 times by the winemaker prior to harvest. The winemaker will assess the balance of the vine and its effective leaf area, the size of the berries and the exposure of the fruit to sunlight. Individual markers will be put down for the very best rows or parcels in the block concerned. These will be carefully machined harvested and vinified separately. Great care and attention is taken in selection. Grapes are tasted from each block and the precisewinemaking regime for the fruit can be determined at this point by checking the intensity of flavours, the colour in the skins as well as the maturity of the seeds. Up to 100 grape samples are analysed from each block to give an indication of the harvest date. The grapes are harvested at exactly the right moment based on these assessments. The quality of the final wine is determined in the vineyard. The resulting wines will have the necessary balance and concentration required for true first Super Premium Georgian Wine OROVELA status. Chateau MaraniOur vineyards have been cultivated for generations. The bibliographer Vakhushti Batonishvili mentioned our Kondoli vineyards as a source of noble wines, in his 1742 book "life of Georgia" For three centuries these have been the benchmark of quality, showcasing the best of Kakheti region. The terrain is composed of alluvial, strongly skeletal, loamy soil on a limestone bedrock. Climate is transitional from humid subtropical to continental under the influence of the Great Caucasus Mountains from the left bank of Alazani River and Tsiv-Gombori mountain range from the right. Cold air flows down the valley from the Caucasus glaciers, forming an ambient microclimate for quality viticulture with large swings between day and night temperatures thus ensuring perfect grape ripening conditions. Of the 240 hectares of Kondoli vineyards, 30% are given to white grapes and 70% to reds. Most of the area is planted with indigenous Georgian vine varieties, such as Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, Alexandreuli, Mtsvane and Kisi. We dedicate a small area to international varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Chardonnay and Riesling. A further vineyard site (30.5h), planted purely with Saperavi vines, is situated on the opposite (left) bank of Alazani River, in the heart of famous Kindzmarauli Specific Viticulture Area. We also have a smaller vineyard in the Napareuli appellation. The vine training systems are traditional for the Kakheti region: bilateral cane or spur pruning. The vine density per hectare is 2400-3400 and the grape yield can be no more than 9 tons per hectare for standard range of wines.
